As you can see in our bumbling attempts at actually dating, this isn’t a book about meeting hot singles—or even a book about how to meet hot singles (we would be an amazing boyfriend for you). Instead, this book will teach you what to do when you meet a hot single. Photos by karenmallard To start, realize you’re not alone. That little voice in your head is right. When it comes to dating, you’re not alone. You have to do this with someone else. You’re doing this for three to four months. You need to be brave enough to do this as a team. Although that might sound a little crazy, take comfort in knowing that everyone—including your future girlfriend or boyfriend—does this. So, when you’re out there on an online dating site (or at a hot singles mixer, or when you go clubbing with friends, or when you’re out at a bar, or when you’re at a party), take a deep breath, realize that it’s not as scary as you think. It’s not nearly as difficult. It takes just as much courage to date as it does to work out. You just don’t know it. As a support group, write down some of the things that have kept you from dating. For example: I don’t know how to talk to hot single women. I’m afraid to get rejected and feel terrible. I feel like I don’t have enough experience to date. I’ve been burnt in the past. I’m afraid it will happen again. I’m scared to be alone for too long. I’m afraid of my job. I’m afraid of what my friends will think. I’m afraid of what my family will think. I’m afraid of getting older. I’m afraid I won’t find the right person. When we’re in the world of dating, we’re in a different reality than we are at our job or when we’re at home. No one is going to judge you. No one will make fun of you. It’s not okay to be afraid. You don’t have to be perfect. You’re not perfect. You’re allowed to be afraid. You’re allowed to have mistakes. You’re allowed to fail. It’s human. It’s okay. It’s just dating. It’s not life and death. And, if you
Even though dates can be nerve-wracking for both men and women, we’ve compiled a list of helpful dating tips that range from excellent conversation starters to creating an amazing first impression. Regardless of who you are, whether you’re currently single or involved in a relationship, the following twelve tips will help you up your dating game. 1. Try Your Hand At The Great Outdoors Dating is all about getting to know someone, so you might want to stop holding back until it’s one of those awkward «do you want to be exclusive?» conversations. Today there’s no time limit on sexual activity. Get out, get naked and get acquainted with some of the world’s most beautiful parks, beaches, trees and lakes. 2. Get To Know Each Other Through Conversation Modern relationships can make it easy to take a person for granted. However, even if you’re dating only one person, it’s important to make time to build up an impressive relationship with your partner—much of this won’t be about planning for a future wedding. Along with reading each other’s minds, remember to make eye contact. You never know when something interesting and unusual will pop up, and you want to be able to turn it into a conversation, not the other way around. 3. Talk About Your Goals Let’s face it: dating’s not about faking excitement and enthusiasm. It’s about the simple truth that everyone has goals and dreams, and you want to be able to make your partner aware of them, as much as they are for you. Topics such as the future, college/university, career, plans for the future, would-be hobbies, etc, are all good to discuss. 4. Be Creative Nothing will ruin a date more than bad etiquette. How many times has someone’s pre-planned, on the spot plan of action or plan for the next meal ruined because they weren’t being creative? Think of the many phrases you may have thought about saying, but didn’t have the chance to try out. Try those out for yourself and your partner, and see if the outcome’s as promising as you think it will be. 5. Try Something That’s Different How many times have you planned to meet up for dinner, only to find out that your friend’s parent cancelled plans,
